Rastislav Kostka is celebrating his fiftieth birthday today. The native of Bošian came to Trnava as a teenager. He had his Premier League debut in the fall of 1991 at home in a 2:2 draw with Baník Ostrava. He scored his first league goal in the fall of 1992 in Prague, where Trnava lost to Slavia 2:3.
He was one of the mainstays of Trnava Spartak in the so-called "Pecze's era", i.e. in the nineties of the last century. He was one of the excellent generation of players like Bališ, Ujlaky, Hrabal, who made it to the national team, but they were not allowed to rejoice in the championship title. Despite this, their matches regularly attracted five-figure attendances.
In 1996, he played in the unsuccessful final of the Slovak Cup (Humenné 1:2 in Vranov n/Topľou) and in 1998 he became the winner of the World Cup (FC Košice 2:0 in Dúbravka). He scored 6 goals in the WC - ODu Trenčín 2, Slavoj Trebišov (in Trnava without spectators), Dukla BB, VTJ Koba Senec and Slovan B.
He netted another 2 goals in Interpohár (Čukarički Belgrade, Daugava Riga). He played 4 matches in the UEFA Cup (Birkirkara at home, Vllaznia Škodra twice, GAK Graz away).
He played 197 league matches for Spartak and scored 34 goals in them. He played the last duel in the spring of 2001 in Košice, where Spartak won over FC 2:1.
In addition to Spartak Trnava, he played in Trenčín during his military service, later in Synota Staré Město, and at the end of his career in Artmedia Petržalka and D. Streda. Today, he plays football only exceptionally for the old men and is mainly devoted to walking in the mountains and hiking.
Rasta, all the best!
